Weed the Musical Episode 1 is Live

Comedic political sci-fi series “Weed the Musical” released by writer/director Dax Martinez-Vargas

Set in a dystopian future on day 2,640 of the quarantine with Trump serving his 3rd term as President

 Austin, TEXAS  (July 2nd, 2020]

In the darkly comedic “Weed the Musical”, we see a sad America where no one is thriving, Americans have strange haircuts,  and they work from home via gloves and goggles, doing jobs as futuristic as drone piloting to as normal as hair cutting to as scandalous as sex working, though that’s portrayed in a PG-13 comedic sort of way. The series concept was created by Dax Martinez-Vargas, Scott Herriott and Jon Stringer in 2016. Though Dax and Scott shot some of it in 2016, they would have to put it on ice, until the pandemic hit in March 2020.

Dax recounts, “We had originally tried to get this made for the 2016 election but it was too ambitious to do in that time with little resources. So it was shelved and it wasn’t until the pandemic hit in March did it make total sense to finish it up for a release.

The first character we meet in the episode is an unnamed micro-dosing, meditating former cop, played by actor Blake Scott, who has a premium weed bar consisting of strains such as “Ivanka Kush” and “WW4” as well as the iconic Volcano vaporizer. By the end of his scene, he realizes he’s going to need a team to help him with a non-explained plan.

Then we meet a team of characters played by Rob Miller, Scott Herriott and Dax, who all work different jobs from their apartment, distanced apart, using their gold colored goggles and gloves while chaos is heard outside their apartment in the streets in what sounds like protests, helicopters, and gunfire.

As the three of them daydream about looking forward to the Independence Day holiday tomorrow and taking a break from their jobs, a government imposed newscast is projected into their homes from MAGA NRA Government Network. The news anchor, Neil “Shark” Nushner, played by Austin actor Joe Grady Moore, explains that the July 4th holiday has been moved to June 14th, “the birthday of our greatest and most fearless leader, Donald J. Trump.”

The three roommates get upset and urge the smartest of the bunch, “hand job tech” Rob, to use his poly sci and Rutger’s debate wisdom and run for community leader so they can save their home, which they’re about to lose, and their country, which is already lost.

Music from Dax Martinez-Vargas’s new album Halusanation is featured in the episode as well as original music by audio engineer Kevin Dawkins.

“I’m really excited to grow and promote something funky, fun and positive that can both bring the world together via plant medicine as well as defeat Trump and the GOP in November.”
